Art The Clown Actor Wants To Play Joker Next, Teases He Could Do “Fun Things”

Actor David Howard Thornton, who plays Art the Clown in the Terrifier series, has said he’s up for playing another killer clown in the future: none other than DC’s the Joker.

Thorton told GamesRadar that the Joker is his favorite villain of all time and that it’s a character he “would love to play myself one day.” He went on to say he hopes DC Studios co-boss James Gunn “gives me the opportunity” to play Joker because Thornton believes he could “do a lot of fun things with him.”

Over the years, the Joker has been played by people like Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Jared Leto, and Joaquin Phoenix most recently. The Terrifier series is known for its extreme and unrelenting gore, and DC’s Joker is not necessarily as sadistic, but it would no doubt be fun to see Thorton give it a go.

Thornton has never played Joker but used the character as inspiration for Art the Clown, he said. He also riffed on characters like Jason, Pinhead, Freddy Krueger, Chucky, and Jigsaw. “I kind of look at Art as being an amalgamation of all the horror icons that came before him,” he said.

Terrifier 3, the newest installment in the series from writer-director Damien Leone, premieres this Friday, October 11. The movie is posed for a $11 million domestic opening weekend, according to Deadline, and if that happens, it would push Joker: Folie a Deux down to the No. 2 spot after only one week in theaters.

In other Art the Clown news, the character is now in Call of Duty’s new Halloween update–and he’s terrifying.
