Wind and Truth brings the first arc of The Stormlight Archive to a close. All four of the novels in the high fantasy series have eclipsed 1,000 pages in hardcover format, but Wind and Truth is the biggest yet at 1,344 pages–over 100 pages longer than any of the others. Amazon has named Wind and Truth one of the best overall books of December and one of the best science fiction and fantasy books of 2024.
If you prefer to read on an electronic device, the Kindle ebook version is $20, while the audiobook is $26. But if you want to listen to Wind and Truth, you’re far better off subscribing to Audible Premium Plus. New subscribers can get their first three months for three bucks. And since you get one free premium audiobook from the catalog to keep each month, you can technically get Wind and Truth’s audiobook for $3.
Returning Audible subscribers will have to the normal $15/month cost, but that’s still a better way to buy Wind and Truth than outright. Once you redeem your Audible Credit, the book remains in your library even if you cancel your subscription. It’s no different than buying Wind and Truth for $26. If you want all five mainline books to match, your best bet at the moment is to pick up The Stormlight Archives Hardcover Box Set at Amazon for $116 (was $160). This box set comes with the first four novels: The Way of Kings, Words of Radiance, Oathbringer, and Rhythm of War.
Oathbringer, the third Stormlight book, is currently sold out in hardcover format at Amazon, Walmart, and Target–hence the box set recommendation. The box set averages out to $29 per book, but it’s worth noting that Books 1, 2, and 4 are cheaper individually.
To complete your Stormlight Archive set, you’ll want to get Edgedancer and Dawnshard, both of which are super cheap in hardcover format right now. The former takes place between books two and three, while the latter takes place between three and four.

Books 1-4 of The Stormlight Archive are also available in trade paperback and mass market paperback (smaller books). The trade paperback editions mirror the hardcovers in terms of page count and font size. For books this long, hardcovers are definitely nice to have, but if you want to save some cash, the trade paperbacks are the next best option in terms of readability in physical format. However, it is worth noting that Words of Radiance is actually slightly more expensive in paperback than hardcover.

The mass market paperbacks are the “pocket-sized” editions. Of course, these aren’t actually pocketable due to how long these books are. The page counts balloon in this format, while the font is smaller. The Way of Kings is 1,280 pages in mass market paperback, whereas it’s 1,008 pages in hardcover and trade.

The Mistborn Saga
If you’re new to Sanderson in general, you can read either of his two major series set in the Cosmere first. The Stormlight Archive is a high fantasy series with a larger cast, grander scope, and many interconnected narratives. It’s the more ambitious and denser of the two series. The Mistborn Saga’s original trilogy released before The Stormlight Archive debuted in 2010. Mistborn skews more toward urban fantasy and features more grounded stories with smaller casts and fewer threads to keep track of. Depending on your interests, Mistborn might be a better way to introduce yourself to Sanderson’s work. The Mistborn Saga is up to seven novels.
That said, if your main fantasy interests are series like Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, and The Wheel of Time, we’d recommend diving straight into The Stormlight Archive.

Brandon Sanderson’s Secret Projects
Sanderson wrote the four books comprising the Secret Projects project during the COVID-19 pandemic and initially released them to Kickstarter backers–it’s the most successful Kickstarter campaign of all time. Three of the books are set in the Cosmere, but there’s also a standalone novel.
