Path Of Exile 2: How To Get Uncut Spirit Gems

There are several ways for your characters to receive new abilities and buffs in Path of Exile 2. The most common and straightforward way of doing so is to use Uncut Skill Gems, which give your character new skills and upgrade existing ones. You can also use the Passive Ability skill tree as well as Uncut Support Gems to further buff your skills. However, one buff that flies under the radar comes from Uncut Spirit Gems, which have their system from the basic Skill and Support Gems.

To see how to get Uncut Spirit Gems and how the Spirit mechanic works in Path of Exile 2, take a look at the guide below.

How Spirit works in Path of Exile 2

While you might want to earn more Uncut Spirit Gems, it’s important to know what you’re actually doing with them. Spirit Gems can be socketed into different Spirit skills, which buff your character in various ways. These work similarly to Skill Gems and are placed alongside them, but you can’t use the Spirit Gems whenever you want.

Instead, you have to physically acquire Spirit to make use of your Spirit Gems. Spirit is gained through a few methods, which you can see below:

  • Equipping specific items – Gear like Sceptres and Solar Amulets offer a percentage of increased Spirit or a flat buff depending on the item. If you equip these items, you’ll have more Spirit to use.
  • Defeating certain bosses – Some bosses in Path of Exile 2 drop a guaranteed Uncut Spirit Gem if you defeat them. Those bosses are:
    • King of the Mists in Freythorn (Act 1)
    • Ignagduk, the Bog Witch in The Azak Bog (Act 3)
  • Finding key areas – Some areas within specific zones offer Uncut Spirit Gems if you find them. The only area that offers this reward in early access is the Golden Tomb in The Lost City during Act 2.
  • Select specific Ascendancies – There are two Ascendancies in Path of Exile 2 early access that offer Spirit bonuses if you select them. Those Ascendancies are Infernalist for the Witch and Invoker for the Monk.

You can track how much Spirit you have by viewing your skills panel. At the top, you’ll see a number next to “Spirit,” which lets you know how much Spirit you have to use. All Spirit Gems require at least 30 Spirit to function.

Allocating Spirit to a new gem.

If you have enough Spirit and a Spirit Gem socketed, go to the skills panel and select the gem. From there, increase the number of Spirit to use on the gem from zero to 30. This activates the Spirit Gem and gives you access to whatever buff it offers. Spirit Gems offer persistent buffs, so they’re quite useful to have throughout combat encounters.

How to get more Uncut Spirit Gems in Path of Exile 2

Unfortunately, Uncut Spirit Gems are some of the rarest drops in the current early access build of Path of Exile 2. Players have been asking the developers to increase the drop rate of the item since early access launched, but nothing has happened yet.

Receiving an Uncut Spirit Gem as a drop.

Uncut Spirit Gems are most commonly dropped from bosses and higher-tier enemies, as you might expect. They can also be looted from chests and received as a reward from a quest in Act 1 (Ominous Alters). As we previously mentioned, the King of the Mists and Ignagduk, the Bog Witch are the only bosses to drop an Uncut Spirit Gem 100% of the time. Then, the Golden Tomb in Act 2 also spawns an Uncut Spirit Gem every time.

However, other than that, you’ll simply have to rely on RNG to earn yourself more Uncut Spirit Gems. You’ll also want to make sure you use the ones you get wisely. If you’re playing as a Monk, for example, we have a build guide that goes over the best Spirit Gem to use for that class.
